Anniwaa’s passion for giving life to multi-layered, black female characters has motivated her to continue to share stories not only as an actress but as a filmmaker. Her work is heavily influenced by shedding light on the trials, tribulations, and celebrations of the invisible and marginalized groups of society.

She has been commissioned by BAFTA-nominated British production company Kandu Arts to write, direct, and produce short films.

In 2022 she produced and starred in, a stunning film noir, shot in the heart of West Africa: MOON OVER ABURI, a collaboration by an all-Ghanaian team, written by Emmy Award-Winning Dr. Kwame Dawes. Moon Over Aburi is currently on the festival circuit and has already garnered accolades.

Moon Over Aburi

Two strangers, a man, and a woman. With one story. The man begins it, the woman concludes it, and highlights the sordid role of a woman's place in a corrupt lawless society.

Same But Different

There are many nuances to the black identity but only a few come to light. This has been shaped by the entertainment industry, the media. Hollywood has filtered our perception of what a black woman looks like, what she thinks, and feels. For some women, this has opened the gateway into a community that may have been distant and unattainable, but for others, this has muted their stories and created a new narrative that is rendering their perspectives, to the point of extinction. This film documents a conversation between a mixed-race- black woman and an African-Black woman, exploring and highlighting their similarities and differences. Ultimately there cannot be a change for or within the black community until we acknowledge ALL of those who feel invisible and marginalised, only then can change happen inside and out.

Golden Delilah

Delilah, an evil woman, a prostitute, a lover of the strongest man that ever lived. The woman who overthrew Samson. There are always two sides to every story and the one in the bible favours Samson,. Now it’s time to hear the story of Delilah, the golden one.

Vivid Blindness

Vivid Blindness, looks at the social pressures projected onto women to become mother’s and wives and how these beliefs can have a lasting damaging effect on an individual’s mental and physical wellbeing. At what cost, does one turn a blind eye, in order to maintain the bliss of a 2.4 children lifestyle?

Jubilation

As we are imprisoned in our homes due to the COVID-19, some of us are lucky/ unlucky to be surrounded by family and partners, to help pass away the time. As life as we know it is evolving, we are trying to adapt our life to working from home.  Whereas for some of us we are trying to find our own personal happy place.... once again.

Jubilation is a film that expresses a twisted reality in which escapism is not as easy as it seems to be.

The Fear

Times are very difficult right now, for a lot of people. There is a fear creeping in on us. Is it the fear of being alone and listening to our inner demons, or the fear of trying to live up to a certain standard of life, or perhaps the fear of not being able to maintain it? Whatever your fear is.. . .. you are not alone.

Unspoken Truth

COVID-19 has affected us all, in a myriad of ways. For a number of us, it has continued to highlight the extreme level of xenophobia and racism, that many non-white people on a daily basis. I asked a group of people from the African and Asian Diasporas, how this has affected their communities. There are three parts to this documentary. The original conversation lasted for two hours.
